I follow Twisted Pixel on Twitter, so it caught my eye last night when I saw the makings of a rumble. Deciphering tweets is an exercise in masochism, so I will sum up: Did you ever play the excellent 'Splosion Man? You know, the one made by indie developer Twisted Pixel that let you 'splode everywhere? The game that may have the greatest end credit sequence of all time? Well Capcom hopes you didn't. Their new title for the iPhone, MaXplosion, looks more than a little familiar. It looks like a cheap version of 'Splosion Man, with a whole lot less awesome.

This Week In Co-Op: 'Splosion Men Speak Out

'Splosion Man is the zany platformer exclusive to the Xbox LIVE Arcade that had gamers excited for co-op this past summer. We all seem to enjoy timing our simultaneous explosions in co-op with one of four different colored 'Splosion Men. Now that the games technical issues have been patched, I've given the co-op another go, and was inspired to share this audio recording I discovered in one of the labs.* Our own OrigamiPanther has helped me transcribe this tape to be shared here today.

A rather interesting article has just popped up at Suite101.com. It details ten good co-op games to be had on Xbox Live Arcade for $10 or less. One of the titles, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Commander's Challenge, does NOT feature co-op, as we verified last week. However, the rest of the list is accurate. It's particularly nice to see some indie games on the list. There's some great fun to be had on the cheap!

We had the pleasure of meeting Josh Bear and Mike Henry of Twisted Pixel at PAX, easily one of the finer moments of the expo. Jason once again lead the introductions, at which point I blurted, "My wife won't let me play anything else!", regarding runaway hit 'Splosion Man (pun intended).

If you're fixing for some Splodin, you might notice a title update when `Splosion Man fires up. Great you're thinking, finally the avatar awards and fixed lag issues are taken care of. Sorry, no awards here, no lag fix to see. Instead the update fixes a leaderboard exploit and clears off some cheaters who abused it to get obscene high scores. This might be why your co-op score pales in comparison to quite a few people out there.
