In the world of the game, the titular "Strange Brigade" is a group of British heroes who are tasked with defending the empire from supernatural threats around the globe. The team gets called into action when an unscrupulous archaeologist accidentally releases the spirit of an evil queen loose in 1930s Egypt.
]]>The title features not only a full cooperative campaign, but two additional modes (Score Attack and Horde) that can be enjoyed with friends. We had a blast when we played it when it launched back in August and it's only gotten more content (both free and paid) since that time. Getting the game for "free" (as Game Pass is a subscription service) and then paying for the DLC isn't a bad deal, especially for a title like this.

A popular addition to modern games, this mode allows players to halt the action and set up the perfect snapshot of whatever awesome moment they've happened upon. A number of sliders allow you to adjust things such as aperture and FOV. Naturally, filters are also available to provide the perfect frame for your shot.
"The Thrice Damned 2: Sunken Kingdom" is out now and offers up the the middle section of the game's DLC campaign. This time around, the adventurers are whisked away to an underground kingdom centered around an ancient temple. As with the previous mission, the party's objective will likely revolve around blasting holes into every undead creature in a ten mile radius.
Well, Rebellion is having none of that, as the first of the game's DLC campaign missions has arrived, alongside some new maps and a brand new character. Titled "The Thrice Damned Part 1: Isle of the Dead", this initial mission takes players to a Mediterranean pirate settlement that also just happens to contain hordes of the walking dead. You probably know what happens from there, but if not, check out the launch trailer:
The new playable character is Patrick "Bash" Conaghan who's default amulet power appears to be some kind of electric smash attack (maybe "Bash" will one day be reborn as an Arc Titan...), called the "Wrath of Quetzalcoatl." As mentioned before, "Bash" is available to all Season Pass holders for free, and if you want to pick him up otherwise, he'll cost you $6.99. He's available across all versions (PC, PS4, and Xbox One) of the game.
We captured some of our experiences with the first campaign mission and a bit of the horde mode last week, so you can check that out if you're curious to see how the game plays. We'll undoubtedly do a stream of it soon, too, as part of our regular Monday night "Let's Play Co-Op" streams, if you need to see a bit more. While I haven't spent a lot of time with it, I had a lot of fun with the bits we played last week and looking forward to playing some more. It's got just enough character progression in it to keep you coming back but without as much of the random loot aspect like in Vermintide 2.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/15762/strange-brigade-now-available-bonus-5th-character-free-for-limited-time.htmlStrange Brigade's campy theme feels like that of the 1930s style radio dramas like Magic Island. A strange mix of sci-fi and adventuring that feels part Indiana Jones and part Left 4 Dead. Game play is similar to most third person shooters, though you'll be gathering souls with your amulet when not aiming down the sights of your trusty weapon. There's no cover system or platforming elements, but there are plenty of puzzles and environmental dangers that contribute to the game's missions.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/15744/strange-brigade-video-preview.htmlI know you're wondering what exactly that looks like, though, which is presumably why Rebellion has offered a substantial look at Strange Brigade's mechanics and modes in the below video. It's decently long as far as trailers go and is most likely one of the last snippets of information we'll get before release day, so be sure to savor it as much as possible.
Regardless, Rebellion Developments (makers of the Sniper Elite series, a favorite around these parts) has posted a video titled "Post-Launch Pinache!" detailing just what they plan on adding to their four player online co-op title.
