The folks over at FireFly Studios have announced that Stronghold Crusader 2 is now DRM free and available on GOG Galaxy. The game isn't just a quick port though, instead all of the previous Steam features have been removed and replaced with GOG Galaxy native features.
]]>So what's new?

The foremost of these additions is full integration with the Steam Workshop for custom maps and missions. Map creators no longer have to invite their friends over to huddle around the dim glow of their CRT monitor and check out this sweet version of Minas Tirith they made last night. Now, users can simply publish their interpretation of the Siege of Constantinople directly to the Steam Workshop for all to see, play, and mock for its historical inaccuracy.
In our match we take on The Shah who is considered "the most reasonable" AI. We tip the scales in our favor since we're both newcomers and still learning the ropes, so while the match is pretty laid back, it gave us a good opportunity to explain the basic systems at play. Plus it was fun to set up a death trap for the opposing team to try to get through with our archers.
Take a look at this new trailer detailing the Wolf's strategies and how best to counter him.
“In the bad old days, release dates were sacrosanct and publishers could force developers to ship even if we were not happy with the game. Now we’re in a much stronger position. Our partners, Mastertronic and Koch Media, have been very supportive and we have decided to release a better game on September 23rd.”
Yes, The Wolf is back to be a pain in our sides once again (watch the trailer below until the very end) and he won't take our stronghold's growth and expansion all that well either. In the previous Stronghold Crusader, The Wolf was the leader of all the enemy factions in all the land. Although he won't be the main focus of SC2, he will still play a big part in the game overall (as requested by longtime fans). Will you let him stand in your way? The game is about three months away from release and is currently in a feature complete stage. Firefly Studios iplans to hold a beta and continue to add polish right up until release. The folks seemed really concerned with polishing the game, getting those little details just right.
We went eyes-on with Stronghold Crusader 2 at E3 last summer, and were excited about the prospect of multiple players working on the same castle in co-op (Skirmish mode). This time, I got to tackle the beast one-on-one as a gamer who has never played a Stronghold game in her life. It was daunting, to say the least. Fortunately, the dev from Firefly Studios (Nick Tannahill) was able to help me out with some of the basics while I simultaneously interviewed him about the game.
