One Wii U Deluxe Set comes with physical copies of Super Mario 3D World and NintendoLand, replacing the current bundle that packed New Super Mario Bros. U with New Super Luigi U. The year of Luigi is over, guess it's time for the green guy to go back into the shadows. A Wii U bundle exclusive to Walmart will come with physical copies of Mario Kart 8 and NintendoLand, which we'll dub the "you can get more co-op if you don't go to Walmart" package, Each bundle retails for $299 and is set to release in mid-September.
]]>Beware of all of the gratuitous power-up action, too.
The Wii U is completely capable of providing online support. Any new Wii U owner is familiar with the firmware update upon turning on the system. Yet, Super Mario 3d World has been designed without an online focus. "While online play is certainly technically possible for us, it simply wasn’t the focus for us this time around," Miyamoto stated. "What we really wanted to do was to create something that people could experience fully while playing comfortably with others who were nearby them, and this is something we decided would be best for Pikmin and the best case for Mario here as well."
First and foremost, they show off all four playable characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad) in action and how their individual powers can help the group succeed. Just how much higher does Luigi jump, or how much faster does Toad sprint than Mario? Next, tons of power-ups are shown, both from older and newer games in the series. The sheer number and variety of powers at the player’s disposal should make for some interesting playthroughs. Take, for example, the Koopa shell, sliding around levels and even into Warp Pipes, or the Shiny Tanooki Suit, which gives new players to the game a chance to blow through obstacles to the next stage. The possibilities are plentiful and definitely look to add replay value. One of the more interesting power-ups revealed, a Double Cherry, doubles or even triples your character simultaneously!
Even after we had the opportunity to get some hands on time with Super Mario 3D World, we had still only seen a sliver of what is to come from the game. Yes, we saw the cat transformations, the new 3D side-scrolling elements, and a lot of co-op potential, but we hardly witnessed just how many different power-ups and items we could use. Even the enemies are shown to be be interacted with in many different ways, such as stealing a Koopa shell and being chased for it! The large gallery below features tons of the different enemies, powerups, and stages we are definitely excited to see come out of the Mario franchise, and so should you. If you have the time, take a look and have a taste of why we are raving about this Wii U title.
