While the big draw for this DLC is the inclusion of mod tools for users to make their own levels (PC only, I'm afraid), it will also add some features for every platform, like a new final chapter, a new boss, new items, and a new playable character. Here's the full list from the dev's blog post:
]]>In late 2014, the original Binding of Isaac gave way to Rebirth, a new version of the game that, among other things, added a two player local co-op mode. A new DLC, "Afterbirth", was released in the time since, but it had yet to make its way to consoles. In a recent press release, the developers finally announced that the massive expansion was to be available May 10th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (sorry, Wii U players).
Tyrone Rodriguez, founder of BoI's publisher, Nicalis, stated on Twitter recently that he was less than pleased with the game's post-DLC performance on those platforms. Given that developer Team Meat decided to completely rework The Binding Of Isaac after their displeasure with its original performance levels, the chances of them releasing an add-on that would result in a negative performance impact seem very slim.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/13749/vita-3ds-and-wii-u-versions-of-binding-of-isaac-rebirth-unlikely-to-get-latest-dlc.htmlDeveloper Edmund McMillen promises the Afterbirth expansion makes The Binding of Isaac feel like a completely new game. A new Greed Mode re-balances things with a new risk/reward mechanic, along with brand new endings and a different final boss. 120 new items populate Isaac's possible roster, just the thing he needs to deal with new enemies and new daily quests/challenges. Also, there's another playable character in the form of Lilith, mother of demons.
Developer Edmund McMillen stated on his blog that he wishes to bring the game to all systems possible, but we will need to be a bit more patient while development is still underway. Also, there is no set release date for when the game opens up to those outside of the US (sorry!).
PC players will be happy to know that the game just got even harder. According to Edmund McMillen, Himsl's ultimate goal for the hard mode was "to make the most challenging and trolly version of Isaac ever... and i think he succeeded in doing so." If a real challenge is what you want, go hog wild with the new update to Wrath of the Lamb.
Both Edmund McMillen, designer on the game, and Nicalis, the game developers, are happy to share with the community that our favorite tear shooting boy will be arriving on Xbox One, Wii U, and 3DS in the future. No release dates have been announced just yet, but before the end of 2015 (can't get enough of the PS4 version).
Whether or not if McMillen is exaggerating the numbers a bit, this is still looking to be quite a big update for the game; fans rejoice! Some new content we can look forward to includes:
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a randomly generated shooter RPG that plays a lot like a punishing roguelike. Isaac is running from his, shall we say, angry mother who heard the voice of God asking her to sacrifice her son to prove her faith. It happens, right? Isaac is journeying through every nightmare you can think of in a very old school-styled world of weapons, enemies, secrets, and non-coddling game design.
Trying to find the words to describe what the Binding of Isaac is about without sounding like a Satanic cult is certainly a challenge, but it's the humor and gameplay at its core that truly makes it great. Similar to that of the original Legend of Zelda dungeon maps, players control Isaac, a naked boy who fires tears as projectiles and a variety of other characters to explore the unknown depths of his basement (or Hell if you prefer). The game mixes elements of action and dungeon crawling to the greatest effect, and now Rebirth supports a local co-op mode!. Up to 2-players can team up to uncover new levels, power-ups, items, characters, enemies, and more that the game has to offer, and in the best version available. There's so much to experience here, even for veterans of the game.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/12229/the-binding-of-isaac-rebirth-release-date-announced.htmlWe've got some developer created co-op footage here detailing some of the new modes in Rebirth. Player One controls Isaac (or one of his various incarnations), while Player Two takes control of... Well. It's a fetus. I think it's a fetus, at least. Look, this game is really screwed up. Just watch.
The big addition is obviously local co-op (no online multiplayer), but the game's scope has exploded.
