We're still short on details about how many players will be supported in the game, though it does seem like it will be limited to online only (or via wireless LAN for the Switch version). Sorry, no couch co-op in this port. The video announcement shows two "players" chatting and playing together, but that doesn't mean that it'll be bumped down to that. For now, we're putting it as four in our database and will be sure to get that updated once the official number is put out there.
]]>At least, they were for PC gamers, as Torchlight 2 has spent its entire post-release lifespan exclusively on the personal computer. No longer, says developer Panic Button! At some point in the relatively near future, console gamers will get to experience all the joys Torchlight 2 has to offer when the game is fully ported over. Panic Button, who primarily deals in the business of porting games, has yet to reveal exactly which consoles will be getting the game and when, but for now, we'll just have to take solace in the knowledge that at least one console will receive the game one day.
Torchlight 2 was released in 2012 and sold more than two million copies by the end of the next year. This prompted developer Runic Games to release even more community modding tools, including the crazy full-featured GUTS editor for easy map making. The game continues to go strong as players realize just how fun isometric action RPGs can be when played with friends.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/13963/torchlight-2-stuffed-into-ea-s-origin-access-vault.htmlArc bills itself as a "social media platform". Essentially, it's a downloadable client aimed at bringing online and MMO-style games together under a single program. Launch, play, interact with and keep track of virtual worlds from one interface, that's the idea. There's only a handful of offerings at the moment, and to be honest Torchlight stands out as a bit of a black sheep since it isn't really isn't a massively anything. But we're not gonna complain about free and cheap games. Well, we are, but only a little, you know?
Extract from the log of Excelsia, Marauder of the Frostfang tribe: Day 10 Fah! Our quest continues, as does this damnable cold. Today we set out in search for some key - perhaps an Emberstone key? I don’t remember exactly; it’s hard to remember when I’m out in the field and the rage is upon me. DjinniMan, also of the Frostfang tribe, is still with me. I don’t know what the elders were thinking sending off two marauders on this quest. Maybe they’re hoping one of us will prove our dominance. All I know is that as of yet, neither one of us has the upper hand. We’re both just trying to survive out here. Enough writing for today. If I keep going, I’ll likely get frostbite.
If the math we just asked our cat to do is correct, that's an average of over 6,000 games per day. For an indie studio that number is beyond good. In fact, we might even say it's "really good". The first million sales came before the end of 2012, but with Steam discounts and continued support by the developer, the next million game came within six months of that milestone. By comparison, the original Torchlight's sales figures are in the hundreds of thousands.
Fans of Torchlght II may remember that word or an official editor has been passed around. In a great twist of humor, Runic Games decided to release the finished editor on April 1'st...except it wasn't a joke. The new editor is named GUTS, and it will allow players to create, tweak, customize, and explore new possibilities in the world of Torchlight II.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/9974/torchlight-2-guts-editor-released.htmlI swear, whoever is in charge of setting up sales at Steam keeps an eye on our chatter here, because the past several PC co-op nights we've announced were accompanied by a Steam sale for the same game. Perhaps it's just coincidence, since Steam is always having sales, but I like to think we have some influence on the industry.
Runic Games sent out a tweet last night letting the world know that Torchlight 2 has done quite well since it launched in September on the PC. The 6 player co-op, action/RPG has sold over 1 million copies to date. Not bad for a game our community chose as their Indie Co-Op GOTY.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/9474/torchlight-2-sells-over-1-million-copies.htmlTorchlight 2 has been anticipated for quite some time, especially after many had sour feelings with Diablo 3. We've compiled a handy FAQ as a compendium to our database entries to help understand the game's cooperative multiplayer. This is everything you need to know about Torchlight 2's cooperative experience spelled out in plain English.
September 20th, 2012. Torchlight 2 finally has a release date thanks to a big announcement by developer Runic Games at PAX. They definitely didn't want you to forget it as it was plastered all over their booth on the show floor. With the game's release imminent, we sat down and played through a near final build of Act 2 in the game.
]]> https://www.co-optimus.com/article/8913/pax-2012-torchlight-2-hands-on-preview-and-video-interview.htmlTorchlight 2 has been an illusive tease for quite some time now. We've been positively aching for this game while Runic has been polishing it until it shines. It seems as if our prayers have finally been answered, however: the official word is that Torchlight 2 will release September 20th, a paltry three weeks from now!
