Sony Closes Zipper Interactive after 17 Years

After 17 years creating games for Sony platforms, Zipper Interactive has been shut down by the publisher. Zipper has created such games has SOCOM Combined Assault on the PS2, SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals on the PS3, and more recently Unit 13 on the PlayStation Vita. Obviously their speciality was tactical shooters and it was something they did quite well.

All day yesterday I was checking the PlayStation Network Store via my Vita, hoping to see a content update so I can download Unit 13, the latest co-op shooter from Zipper Interactive. I'm on the review for the game, so time is crucial for me, as I want to get the most out of the experience. To my disappointment the game wasn't available until almost 8:30PM Eastern last night, after which, I needed to wait almost two and a half hours for the 1.2GB game to download. Sadly, these superfluous issues with time were only the beginning.

One of the game's I'm most excited for on the PlayStation Vita is Unit 13 from SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive. Not only does it look like a true 3rd person shooter experience, it looks like a lot of time and thought has gone into designing one that's playable on a handheld. The Zipper Interactive shooter Unit 13 was only just revealed for the PlayStation Vita, but the launch title for the system is shaping up to be a solid looking cooperative shooter for Sony's new handheld in February. Unit 13 Brings Co-Op To the VITA from Zipper Interactive

Zipper Interactive, creators of SOCOM 4 US Navy Seals, have announced a brand new game for the PlayStation VITA which will be available at the system's launch. The game is called Unit 13 and its a 3rd person shooter set across 36 missions and 9 locales. It doesn't look all that different than the SOCOM franchise, though we get a little more of a "black ops" vibe from the screens and info.
