World War Z's Crossplay Co-Op Is Adding PlayStation 4 Users Tomorrow

As part of the upcoming "Dronemaster Update," PlayStation 4 will be added to the game's crossplay capabilities, meaning gamers from all three communities will be able to work together to save a zombie-ravaged world (or at least not get killed by it). The update will also be adding the eponymous Dronemaster class, as well as the ACW-20 grenade launcher. The former uses a quadrocopter to defend chokepoints and buff teammates, and the latter... well, you can probably guess what that does.

Marseille DLC Out Now For World War Z

World War Z's latest expansion whisks players away to the beautiful (and overrun) site of Marseilles. Over the course of its three missions, a group of four all-new characters will battle and sneak their way through dimly lit catacombs, sprawling urban centers, and dilapidated fortresses. The developers have said that they wanted to "push the co-op element" in this latest DLC, so don't expect to breeze through these levels lone-wolf style.

Crossplay Is Now Available For World War Z

On top of that, it's now been updated with a patch allowing crossplay between PC and Xbox One. Your pals on the PlayStation 4 have been left in the cold for the time being, but they'll be joining up in the future. The patch, which arrived earlier this month, also added a few other goodies to mix. A new mission objective, titled "Virus Sample", offers a chance at better end-of-level rewards if players can carry a virus sample canister all the way through a level. You'll have to be careful, though, as it applies increasingly negative effects to you the longer you hold on to it.

World War Z Season 2 Brings Horde Mode

If survival isn’t your cup of tea fear not; this update brings paid cosmetic items for your survivor so you can be fleek while you fight the undead. Finally, the trailer (below) ends by promising one more addition to Season 2 that will bring Crossplay Support, free cosmetics, and “more exciting news to announce soon.” Honestly, for the price of free-ninety-nine I don’t think this season can get any better.

World War Z Receives Season 2 Roadmap

Even though Saber Interactive has remained vague about what exactly the Season Two additions will bring, their post has stated, “Season 2 is bursting with new features and community-requested content: Two challenging new PvE missions set in Moscow and New York, The highly anticipated introduction of a wave-based horde mode – Horde Mode Z, A volatile new zombie type ,PvE crossplay support,The ability to prestige rank up for new weapon skins and perks, A fiery new weapon and new cosmetic items” Oh how sweet that vague content sounds.

World War Z Proving Grounds Now Available

In the trailer, something that is specifically addressed is the new aesthetic content that is being added to World War Z. These outfit and character rewards are stated to be rewards for players who complete weekly challenges and will remain behind a play-based wall (you read that right). This means that only players who have completed in-game objectives and earned in-game currency will be able to purchase the aesthetic items without any other way to purchase them, such as a paying real-world currency for the same items. World War Z: The Undead Sea Update Now Live

This completely free update also excitingly adds a new special zombie called the Infector. If survivor characters get the Infector's saliva on them, they must clean it off or else they'll quickly turn into a zombie. If that wasn't scary enough, the Infector must be finished off with a melee killing blow, or it will reanimate at full health.

Following a successful launch, Saber Interactive is trying to keep the game's momentum going with a three-month plan for free content. Starting this month, players will receive new missions to complete, new zombies to slay, and new weapons to do it with.

World War Z Stream Recap and Impressions

The general level-by-level gameplay of World War Z should sound instantly familiar to anyone that's played Left 4 Dead, or any of the other variations of that style of game. You and three other players (online only) hop into a level of a campaign and then progress through the level shooting zombies until you reach a point where you have to open a door/gate/whatever by finding/opening/turning on/manipulating two/three/five doodads while fighting off more zombies. There will be weapons and ammo to gather along the way, along with medical supplies to restore your health or a teammate's. You'll also encounter special zombies, like the "Bull" or the "Gasbag," that have special attacks or effects (the Gasbag leaves a poison cloud where it dies, and the Screecher attracts groups of zombies), to change things up a little bit. Eventually, you may have to defend one point against a big horde of zombies. Rinse and repeat until you clear the level, and then do some very similar things in the next level.
