When things go awry, it seems like the customer service of most companies kicks in to overdrive and they give out some freebies. Well, in case you’re thinking you may miss out on whatever Sony is cooking up to begin to make up for the PSN outage - here’s a past and present of what we’ve seen in freebies for catastrophes.
As more and more people come down on Sony for their PSN outage, potentially stolen credit card info, and sheer amount of time without their PS3’s being connected to the net, I’m reminded of a time when Microsoft didn’t quite have their ducks all in a row.
A few years back, a huge influx of customers caused Xbox Live to experience some pretty hefty hiccups in the system where people had issues connecting, signing in, and recovering account information. The Xbox users were outraged, primarily because - well, Xbox Gold is a paid-for service, and many of us couldn’t get our game on, download things properly, or anything else of the sort.
Sure, it’s not quite the same as the PSN outage, which was a malicious attack on the network, but Xbox Live users also paid for their connectivity. Our compensation? A little number I like to call Undertow. Now, Undertow is a twin stick shooter of sorts that is set under water, and it’s a fantastic co-op game that I never would have experienced had Xbox Live not experienced a case of the jitters.
Now that the Playstation Network is in the process of being restored, we’ve got The Scoop on what freebies you can expect to try out once the store is restored.
“All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.
Dead Nation
inFAMOUS
LittleBigPlanet
Super Stardust HD
Wipeout HD + FuryFor PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.
LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
ModNation Racers
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation”
See the limit there? Keep an eye out for these downloadable titles as soon as the Playstation Store is restored, and keep in mind the limit is set at two. For those digging on the co-op: Dead Nation is a co-op PSN title, LittleBigPlanet is a co-op retail title, Super Stardust HD is also a PSN co-op title.
There aren’t any details on what happens to those of us who have both PS3 and PSP’s though. If I had to choose only two from the entire list? Well, I own a lot of them already, so that’s not a very unbiased way to present these games now, is it?
Seriously though, we as gamers should appreciate the effort put forth by the developers who contributed their games to the “welcome back” package. Maybe not to Sony itself, but take the games - they’re all fairly quality.
Check out additional details on the welcome back package as it stands and keep an eye on co-optimus for when the store comes back online. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been dying to get my hands on Dungeon Hunter: Alliance for a month now!
