Remember that time Fable III was given away for free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers? Looks like the deal will officially end on June 30th. Fear not, though, for Microsoft is using the opportunity to kick off its Games with Gold program. Each month on the 1st and 16th until the end of the year, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get a game for free. Pretty simple. Fable III is short of retroactively shoehorned into the program, but July promises both Halo 3 and Assassins Creed 3, which isn't too shabby.

Fable 3 is currently free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers! Microsoft flipped the switch earlier today with no official word on how long the giveaway will last, so get to grabbin' while the grabbin's good. To download, fire up your console and head to the On Demand section of the marketplace. There you'll see Fable 3 glistening like a bit of treasure on the ground.

We love when the Xbox Live Marketplace has weekly deals on co-op games because hey - who doesn't love saving a buck or four on additional content for your favorite co-op games? This week (from now until Feb. 27th), Xbox 360 owners can snag some Fable 3 DLC from 33%-45% off. This includes quest packs like Traitor's Keep (which we did an impressions piece on) and Understone. Everyone knows that game show Let's Make a Deal, right?  Remember how there are three doors for contestants to choose from, with prizes that range from a new car to a wheelbarrow full of dirt?  Well, the PC release of Fable III is going to be like that in a way.  But no matter which door you choose, the same Fable III goodness is your prize.

You may have heard that Fable 3 is finally coming to PC on May 17th.  You may have also heard that the game will have a hardcore mode, along with local and online co-op.  In a recent interview with CVG.com Lionhead Studios Josh Atkins said that some of the exclusive PC content of Fable 3 may make their way to the Xbox 360 version.  When asked if features like the hardcore difficulty level and the first person perspective could come to the 360, Atkins said;

The latest thing to come about for the co-op-eriffic Fable 3 is a handful of DLC. We've seen dog skins, weapon packs, new locations, and a bit more storyline to supplement the royal storyline for Fable 3. Traitor's Keep is one of those storyline packs that gives you a taste of life beyond the mainland. Life in a giant island prison facility called Ravenscar Keep, and boy is it the very definition of "Oops."

We've got a few tidbits of Fable 3 info today - both items I'm pretty shocked we haven't seen sooner.  

As gamers we sure seem to know what we want after a game has been chewed and digested in our game systems, don’t we? It doesn’t happen often, but in the case of the upcoming fantasy sequel Fable 4 we get to drop our opinionated two cents in ahead of time, by rating the series it belongs to. In the hopes of having the best possible community pleasing game, Lionhead Studios has released a brief survey that wants to know what they did right for Fable 3 - including the use of co-op, to possibly carry on to a sequel.

Did someone cast a darkness spell on the release date for the PC version of Fable 3? We’ve seen, beaten, and are just waiting for some DLC on the console Xbox 360 version, but still no word for PC gamers. CES did offer us a bit of light on the game, as it was available for previewing at the Microsoft booth just last week. Hopefully that means they’re just about ready to give up the goods and release for PC already.

I was playing the new Superhero Squad game with my son last night, and noticed that there was already DLC available for the relatively new release.  Said DLC consisted of a trio of playable characters: Captain America, Bucky, and the Red Skull.  My initial reactions were "What?  No Cap in the main game?  Outrageous!" followed by "240 MS points for that?  A dollar a character?  Seems pretty steep for a kiddie game to me."
