This one almost got away from us, so many thanks to our readers and fans that brought it to our attention. If you've got a PlayStation 4, you can hit up the PlayStation Store now to download the Nioh beta demo and play through the handful of missions with a buddy.
The beta demo is free and lasts until Tuesday, September 6, so you have a few more days to check out this title that crosses Dark Souls with Edo period Japan (and Ninja Gaiden). Two player online co-op is supported in each of the demo's three missions, but it takes a little bit of setup if you want to play with a specific friend.
- If you want to invite someone into your game, you only have to visit one of the in-game shrines in a mission and choose "Invite Visitor." Offer up an "Ochoko Cup," which you can earn by defeating enemy and player revenants, and just wait for another player to join your game. You start the demo with a few of these already so you can invite someone to your game from the very first shrine you encounter.
- If you want to join someone else's game, you'll have to complete the first mission (Island of Oni) in order to unlock the "Torii Gate" within the Dojo location on the mission select screen/map.
- If you wish to join a particular individual's game, each party will have to change their network options from the mission select screen/map to specify a particular game password. This system is similar to the password system that was used in Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne.
Clearing both of the main missions in the demo will let you download some special DLC for the game, the Mark of the Conqueror and the Mark of the Strong, that will add new weapons and items to the title when it finally gets released.
