Sega's phenomenal co-op strategy game, Total War: Shogun 2, may not have been lost to time, but it's certainly fallen a bit by the wayside in light of Sega's more recent iterations on the Total War franchise. Thanks to the current pandemic, though, it's been given one more shot at the limelight.
As of right now, Shogun 2 is totally free to anyone who nabs it on Steam until May 1st, 2020. In a statement, Sega explained: "The past few weeks have presented unimaginable challenges to many of us, but the remarkable collective effort being made by the global community to overcome this moment of adversity has been truly inspirational. With this in mind, we want to continue to encourage you all to stay home and save lives by extending a gift to everyone to help make this difficult situation a little bit easier." This offer also coincides with a substantial sale on many of the Total War games, including Shogun 2's DLC packs.
For anyone with a lot of time to spare (which, as of right now, should be just about everyone), Shogun 2 offers a fantastic co-op experience in which two players command separate, unique clans as they try to unite feudal Japan under one banner. Gameplay takes place on both a turn-based, countrywide layer and in real-time battles. You can read more about the game in our glowing review.
Total War: Shogun 2 is available exclusively on PC and allows online co-op for two players.
