The first DLC for TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, titled "Dimension Shellshock," is due out on August 31. The DLC's primary additions are two playable characters (Karai and Usagi Yojimbo) and a survival mode, all of which should add lots of thrilling beat 'em up fun. Dotemu and Tribute Games recently published an extended gameplay preview that showcases the new characters and mode, and also reveal even more of the DLC's copious background character cameos.
In Dimension Shellshock's Survival Mode, players will travel between numerous dimensions, collecting crystals and selecting randomized power-ups each time they complete a scene. A couple of these dimensions include Edo (ancient Japan) and Mirage. The Mirage dimension features backgrounds made to look like faux comic panels, although the background artwork seems to be based on the 1987 TMNT cartoon rather than the actual Mirage comics.
Throughout the extended gameplay footage video, we spotted a variety of background cameos: Mondo Gecko, Hamato Yoshi, Ninjara (the fox), Chien Khan (the dog), Al'Falqa (the eagle), and Hothead (the dragon). The screenshot above also showcases Mona Lisa, Zack, and Irma. These cameos draw from TMNT Adventures comics, the original Playmates toyline, and the 1987 cartoon.
