Vampire Survivors Gets Free 'Whiteout' Update On Xbox, Steam, and Mobile

Celebrate the cold season with a new snowy stage and a winter witch character!

Vampire Survivors is one of the best values in gaming. The "little $5 game that could" received a free co-op update not long ago, and now the free "Whiteout" update has come along as well. The addition of a new level, a new character, and other content will certainly give fans of the gothic Roguelike a reason to hop back into the game.

The "Whiteout" update adds:

  • 6 new EXTRA achievements
  • 1 new Bonus stage: the snowy stage Whiteout
  • 2 new relics to get a new PowerUp and morph an existing character (a fan favorite)
  • 1 new weapon with its evolution: the spiky ice weapon Glass Fandango
  • 1 new playable character: frosty worrier She-Moon Eeta
  • 1 new music track: Remedy in the Snow

These additions don't just unlock automatically, though. Players have to earn them! To unlock the Whiteout stage, collect 20 Orologions (a power-up that can be found when breaking torches and which creates a freezing circle around players). After surviving for at least 20 minutes in the Whiteout stage, the new playable character, She-Moon Eeta (whose name is an Italian play on words) will unlock as well.

We checked out the new content in a quick co-op game. Whiteout is a fun winter-themed stage full of snowy monsters and even evil snowmen. Sometimes the party will dare to enter a cave in order to escape from the snow and search for items, but you have to be careful to exit before the hordes of enemies trap you inside. As for She-Moon Eeta, her new Glass Fandango weapon is strong against frozen enemies, so she's perfect for freeze builds (when you strive to pick up freezing-oriented weapons and items).

Update: The Switch version of the game has not received the update yet.

Vampire Survivors sells for $4.99 on XboxSwitch, and Steam. The game supports 4-player local co-op. We'll have a full co-op review soon!
