Monster Bath Games, the creator of the gorgeous modern arcade game Deathwish Enforcers, has launched its latest project on Steam. GuardGrave is another new arcade game, this time with a lighthearted horror theme. One or two local players can become the caretakers of a graveyard that is besieged by the forcers of evil. With hammers in hand, our heroes must nail all the coffins shut before the darkness spreads all over the world!
GuardGrave is a single-screen action game that borrows elements of Burger Time and other arcade classics. In each level, players must navigate a series of ladders and floors while attempting to close every coffin on the screen. Hammering the lid of a coffin several times will cause it to drop down one level, so you'll often need to knock a lid down several times before it reaches the bottom of the coffin. Knocking a coffin lid into enemies will defeat them, whereas a blow from a hammer only stuns the foe. Power-ups and score-giving gems spawn periodically as well, so our heroes will be doing lots of scrambling as they close the coffins.
The game is split up into seven worlds, each with multiple levels. Players will fight through not only graveyards and catacombs but also snowy mountains, sandy pyramids, and more. Each world concludes with an exciting boss fight, something you sure didn't see in the original Burger Time. The hammering heroes will have to dodge attacks from gigantic monsters while fighting back by knocking down the coffin lids that respawn throughout the battle.
GuardGrave is now available on Steam for only $5. We'll have a full co-op review and more coverage eventually, but the game is a safe buy if you like classic arcade games. A Switch version will be released in the future as well.
