Cats make everything better, including action RPGs. Indie German developer SimaGames has used this well-known fact of life to create Zpellcatz on Steam. The game stars a cat wizard who is trapped on a cursed island and forced to use "spellz" to survive. The cat wizard has a bat familiar who can be controlled by a local co-op partner for additional magicial fun.
Features:
Magic Combat Only: Say goodbye to traditional weapons. In ZpellCatz, every character is a spellcaster, offering a fresh and exciting approach to combat.
Class and Path System: Customize your cat hero by combining different classes and paths. Whether you prefer the tanky resilience of an Archdruid or the devastating area-of-effect spells of a Dark Mage, there's a playstyle for everyone.
Loot-Filled Dungeons: Explore procedurally generated dungeons brimming with hundreds of randomized items, from common gear to over 150 different epic items.
Dark Campaign: Immerse yourself in a gripping storyline with a dark twist. Engage in main quests and optional side missions, each offering generous rewards from grateful villagers.
The Intermediate Realm: After completing the main campaign, challenge yourself in the Intermediate Realm, a post-game paradise of endless dungeons, secrets, and superior loot.
Cat and Bat Duo: Choose a bat Familiar to aid your cat hero. Enjoy local multiplayer by plugging in a gamepad or have the Familiar controlled by the CPU for a solo experience.
Clear Aesthetics: The minimalist art style ensures you stay focused on the action, even during the most chaotic battles.
Challenge Modes: For the hardcore gamers, ZpellCatz offers 'Challenging' difficulty and the perma-death modes 'Hardcore' and 'Cat-core' (7 lives). Face the ultimate test against Uber Bosses in the Intermediate Realm.
Guitar Soundtrack: Enhance your dungeon-crawling experience with a beautifully composed guitar soundtrack, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to your adventure.
The game seems to have a Hammerwatch/Gauntlet style to it, which could be a lot of fun. The spelling of the title messes with my mind, but perhaps the letter "Z" does make an "S" sound in some countries. I confess that I actually tried to write this article by using Z for S in every word, but I had to give it up after a few zentencez. In seriousness, I hope Zpellcatz is a game that players won't want to give up!
Zpellcatz sells for $19.99 on Steam and Itchi.io. To celebrate the launch, players can get the game for ten percent off through June 19.
