The original Sword of the Necromancer, an action RPG from Grimorio of Games, is so popular that it's getting both a sequel and a remake. The remake, Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection, will upgrade the visuals to 3D graphics and add gameplay improvements. Resurrection now has a Steam demo for a limited time, allowing players to check out its smooth gameplay and engaging storytelling.
The story involves a rogue named Tama who has lost her lover to death. Tama's mission, then, is to use the fabled "Sword of the Necromancer" to resurrect her partner. Unfortunately, the sword alone is only powerful enough to resurrect monsters, so Tama will have to journey through the Necromancer's dungeon and defeat him in order to save her lost love.
Features:
- Turn your foes into allies: Use the Sword of the Necromancer to revive defeated monsters and make them fight alongside you.
- Plan your battles, control the dead: Customize your summons' behaviour with the Tactics feature.
- New dimension, new battle system: Improved combos and a new companion AI system.
- Level up: Enhance your character and your monsters by fighting together.
- Relive the journey: Discover Tama and Koko's past as you advance through the dungeon.
- Local co-op play: Play with a friend in local co-op.
I played the demo for a while and really loved it. The art style, storytelling, voice acting, and gameplay are all very strong. Resurrecting enemies to create minions is a fun mechanic, too. I couldn't play 2-player local co-op in the demo, unfortunately. Either players have to get far enough in the demo to unlock the feature, or the demo just doesn't have the feature. In the original game, you have to beat the first boss before a second player can join in.
Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection is due out in 2024 for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam. Try the Steam demo while it's available! In the meantime, the original Sword of the Necromancer sells for $14.99 on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam.
