Long ago, a tower defense game called Plants vs. Zombies took the world by storm. It was super good, we miss it, and shame on Popcap and EA for not making more mainline PvZ games. Luckily, Prikol Team and ESDigital Games are ready to fill that need with their new Steam release of Cats on Duty. This game has a serious PvZ vibe plus plenty of fresh ideas of its own. It's out now on Steam, and console versions are coming later this year.
In Cats on Duty, an army of evil zombies is invading the humans' yard. Players must place cat defenders on the lawn in order to defend each lane. That's just like PvZ! The difference here is that placing cats costs different kinds of colored cat food currency. To earn said currency, players must make matches on the puzzle field located on the left side of the screen. Making matches costs sausages, though, which accumulate over time and can also be earned by defeating zombies. The puzzle aspect adds a big new wrinkle to the already fun lane-based tower defense formula.

There's a free demo on Steam, so be sure to check out what the cat dragged in. The game promises 2-player local co-op, which could be the cat's meow if well implemented. We'll have to try the full game and report back soon!
Cats on Duty costs $9.99 on Steam and Epic. Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch versions will be released later in 2024.
