Back in June, Atari announced that paid DLC for Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration was in the works, along with an Expanded Edition that will bundle the original collection and DLC. At last, that DLC is close to being released. it's coming out on September 26, and it's called "The Wider World of Atari." Atari is too cool to reveal the games that will be included just yet, but we're crossing our fingers for some co-op titles anyway.
We do know that the DLC will include:
- Unusual and underappreciated Atari 2600 innovations as well as hidden gems from the 1980s
- A spotlight on the artist Evelyn Seto, who helped create Atari’s iconic logo
- The community’s quest for unreleased prototypes and the preservation of gaming history
- Archival and contemporary interviews from employees, fans, and homebrew developers
"But what about THE GAMES?" you ask. Well, Atari is having MetalJesusRocks announce the DLC's 19 games on Wednesday, September 25 on YouTube. Atari 2600 games are promised, but I'm hoping for some Atari 7800 and/or arcade games too.
"The Wider World of Atari" DLC will debut on Thursday, September 26. it will cost $7.99. A second DLC called "The First Console War" will be released on November 8, along with Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition, which will bundle the game with both DLCs.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration (the original edition) sells for $39.99 on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam. The Steam version is fully Steam Deck compatible. To learn more about Atari 50, check out our co-op review!
