The House of the Dead 2: Remake Is Finally Coming This Spring

Get ready for more zombie-blasting fun.

Forever Entertainment's The House of the Dead: Remake was a pretty good new version of the classic Sega light gun shooter, even if the modern graphics lost some of the original's Japanese charm. Thus, we're glad that Forever will be releasing THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake in the spring of this year. The Dreamcast version of HotD2 was terrific, so hopefully, the new version will pack a similar level of gory fun.

Here's what we know about the remake so far:

Story:
In February 2000, a small city was suddenly overrun by hostile creatures. Two AMS agents, James Taylor and Gary Stewart, were sent to investigate. Upon arrival, they noticed that the situation resembled the Curien Mansion incident from 1998. Determined to uncover the source of the infestation, they began shooting their way through hordes of creatures.

Game Features:

  • Remastered music (with the classic soundtrack also available in the game)
  • Modern graphics
  • Gameplay faithful to the original game
  • Co-op mode
  • Multiple endings and branching levels

Various Game Modes:

  • Classic Campaign: Almost two years after the events of the first installment, AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart are deployed to investigate a city seized by undead creatures.
  • Boss Mode: Take on the challenge of defeating the game’s bosses as fast as you can.
  • Training Mode: Polish your skills in several available training scenarios to improve your abilities before deploying on a mission.

This remake won't include the Original Mode found in the Dreamcast, Wii, and PC versions of HotD2, which is a shame. Original Mode added items to find throughout the game's levels that could then be equipped at the start of a playthrough. Hopefully, the remake will have its own additions to provide extra replay value. Let's also hope that the Steam version will support Sinden light guns (they sort of work with the first remake)!

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake is due out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Steam, and GOG in Spring 2025. Will all versions arrive at the same time? Stay tuned to find out. For an idea of what to expect, see our co-op review of the first remake!
