Remember how fun Advance Wars: Portrait of Ruin was in co-op? It's not often that you find a turn-based strategy game that's so easy to play AND also supports the co-op. That's why we're pumped for Warside, the upcoming strategy game for Steam from Lavabird and First Break Labs (makers of Cthulhu's Reach). It plays a lot like Advance Wars, and we're dying to play it with friends.
Features:
- Intuitive turn-based gameplay with a familiar feel for fans of the classics.
- 14 playable Commanders, each with unique passive skills and Battle Powers.
- Control 30 unit types. Simultaneously battle over land, air, and sea with ground forces, aircraft, and naval units.
- Faction unique units with mechanics specific to each faction.
- Single-player campaign with over 30 missions.
- Forest, desert and snow environments, plus the toxic wastelands.
- Challenge friends and foes with multiplayer battles. Local and internet play are supported.
- Design your own maps with the built-in mission editor for both single and multiplayer.
The game's store page doesn't go into detail about its 2-player local and online co-op support, but it seems that two players will be able to team up against the AI in skirmishes. The actual campaign is single-player. There's a demo that's quite fun solo, so I'm feeling good about the full game. The developers just need to add a button to end turn (instead of making us press Start to choose it from the menu), and I wish the character portraits used a more Japanese style.
Warside will arrive on Steam on Monday, April 14. Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch versions are due later in 2025.
