There are plenty of gaming controllers available for mobile phones. Folks love to play their emulators on the go, after all. How do you improve on the mobile controller solutions that are already out there? You add Hall Effect analog sticks, for starters, and then you design the controller to fold up and tuck away under the phone itself. That's what the MCON from Ohsnap! does, and it looks really sweet.
The MCON is a Bluetooth controller that attaches to phones via MagSafe, an Apple technology. The controller can still be used with phones that don't have MagSafe via MagSafe-compatible case or the included MagSafe adapter disc. The MCON folds away when not in use, with the fold-out grips being optional during gameplay.
Features:
- MagSafe compatibility
- Fold-away design
- Full-sized Hall Effect analog sticks
- Silent buttons
- USB-C charging
- Includes 2 magnetic pucks and adhesive MagSafe adapter
- Dimensions (closed): 5.67 in. x 2.67 in. x .72 in.
The MCON is compatible with iOS, Android, PC, and, supposedly, Xbox. Do they mean XINPUT, maybe? It would be unusual for a controller like this to actually support Xbox without official licensing.
MCON completed a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year. The controller is still available for preorder via late pledges at a price of $129 plus shipping. Shipping is expected to begin in August. We hope this controller turns out as good as it sounds so that we can enjoy some classic co-op gaming on our phones!
