Beyond Co-Op, September 27th to October 3rd

The stories for this week:

- GameCrazy Closing 30% of Stores

- Twitter Updates Getting Curbed for Uncharted 2

- Wii 4.2 System Update Bricking Unmodded Systems

- Super Street Fighter IV Announced

- Diverse Set of Games Releasing This Week

GameCrazy Closing 30% of Stores

This may or may not affect you, but it is a good percentage of a Gamestop competitor closing down. GameCrazy stores are tied to Hollywood Video locations, although it is sounding like the Hollywood Video part is staying open. Looking at the rumored list (thanks to Joystiq) it looks like all the GameCrazy stores left here in Minnesota are closing. Many Hollywood Videos up here have closed, including the relatively new one in my hometown. Sad for all the workers that will probably be displaced, but it is hard to stand up to the juggernaut that is Gamestop, who seems to keep on making profit quarter after quarter.

Twitter Updates Getting Curbed for Uncharted 2

A couple weeks ago I talked about that there will be the ability to do Twitter updates on your progress in the upcoming PS3 exclusive game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Some of the bigger sites out there got review build copies of the game a few weeks ago now (there are now many reviews up already for the game) and some of the reviewers turned on all the Twitter updates that do such things as tweet about you finishing a level, making money in multiplayer and many other things. Well, Sony has decided to disable the ability at the moment because some writer’s Twitter feeds were becoming inundated with Uncharted 2 tweets.

When the game comes out on October 13 Sony will have a patch that will hone down the amount of tweets that are sent out. Not sure exactly what this means, but it is good that they figured this out before the game’s release and set Twitter ablaze with tweets.

Wii 4.2 System Update Bricking Unmodded Systems

Nintendo sent out the Wii 4.2 update this week continuing their never ending quest to defeat all the modders out there that have put such things as the Homebrew Channel onto the Wii. Problem is the update has bricked some unmodified Wiis. Best idea is to not run the update at this point on the off chance your Wii may brick. If you make it all the way through the update and the Wii boots up again you’re good, but if something happens during the update, your Wii is dead. You can send it to Nintendo to be fixed…as long as it is not modified in any way.

Super Street Fighter IV Announced

Capcom announced an expansion to their hot fighting game this week. Super Street Fighter IV has no announced cost as of yet, but it will be significantly less expensive than the original game from what we’ve heard. About 8 new characters will be introduced, including T-Hawk and Dee Jay from earlier games in the series as well as some new characters. Along with that a rebalancing of the game will happen and new ultras will be unleashed. As long as they keep it cheap, I think this will be a good pickup when it is released in Spring 2010.

Diverse Set of Games Releasing This Week

Kind of an odd release week before Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and the Fallout 3 Game of the Year (with all DLCs) releases next week. This week we see the Wii remake of A Boy and his Blob, a popular NES game, the NBA series of games (Live, 2K, Show), the cheap Wii Fit Plus (if you already have the balance board, this is only $20), Afrika finally sees release on American soil and the RPG game Demon’s Soul on PS3 comes out this week. The latter has been a hot topic for RPG players, should be interesting how well it made the transition from release in Japan
