A few weeks back Rebellion re-released that classic Aliens vs Predator title on Steam to build up some hype for the new Aliens vs Predator game coming to 360, PS3, and PC next month. And while the original game had a co-op style survival mode for four players, it wasn't exactly playable in the re-release due to the lack of servers.
Well start grinnin and drop your linen because we have some good news.
An update to the Steam title now includes native Steam support for multiplayer. You'll be able to connect with friends and browse games via a rudimentary in game browser. Here's the full list of enhancements:
- Integrated with Steam overlay
- Uses Steam name
- Host/join games via bare-bones in-game lobby browser
- Can invite and join friends and other players via the Steam overlay
- Currently no way to create private games (will patch)
- Game attempts host migration
- Dedicated servers are not supported or planned
Bravo to Rebellion, this is quite the treat for a $5 re-release. Hopefully more developers take note and can add this kind of support to past titles. A big part of these games of the past were their multiplayer capabilities, so it would be a shame to lose that over time because of the lack of servers or support.
You can purchase and download Aliens vs Predator 2000 from its Steam page. It couldn't be a better time to join our Steam group and look for some other folks to play! Just remember - short controlled bursts.
