Beyond Co-Op, April 18th to April 24th

Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.

The stories for this week:

- Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Announced
- Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 Announced
- Live Action Alan Wake Prequel Starts April 25th on Xbox Live
- Ubisoft Moving to Digital Manuals
- SSF IV, FIFA World Cup, Dead to Rights and Neir Highlight Releases

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Announced

Capcom seems to be making smart moves nowadays and the sequel that all us fighting fans have been waiting for was finally unveiled last week at Captivate in Hawaii: Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of the Two Worlds. Supposedly there will be over 30 fighters, but the only official ones so far are Ryu, Morrigan and Chris Redfield on the Capcom side as well as Wolverine, Iron Man and the Hulk on the Marvel side. Along with this other videos have pretty much confirmed Chun-Li, Nero or Dante from Devil May Cry, Captain America and Dr. Doom. Obviously Spider-Man is suspiciously absent, but he will probably be there too.

The game is scheduled for a Spring 2011 release and I’m sure we’ll hear more at E3.

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 Announced

The other big announcement was that there will be a followup to the reinterpretation of the original Bionic Commando that came out on XBLA and PSN. This time around you get the ability to jump, something totally new to the IP in the 2D side scrolling arena. Of course the next generation version (a game I liked) had jumping in it, but this is the first time in a side-scrolling version. The game will contain an original story with Nathan Spencer and is coming out in the first quarter of 2011

Live Action Alan Wake Prequel Starts April 25th on Xbox Live

Alan Wake is a little under a month away and I’ve been huge on this game since it was first announced. I also know that last week they had playthroughs for the press in Washington and usually when they do something like that the game is indeed special. Microsoft also announced there would be a 6-part live-action prequel starting on April 25 on Xbox Live. It is called Bright Falls and an episode will be released every week with a special 2-part finale on May 17, the day before the games release. I’m getting super excited about finally seeing this game, I think it will be a sleeper.

Ubisoft Moving to Digital Manuals

Not sure if this is good since I really don’t read the manuals as it is, but Ubisoft has announced with the release of Shaun White Skateboarding that manuals will be available in-game only, eliminating the paper from the regular manuals. Will other companies follow suit in this new eco-friendly move? Who knows.

SSF IV, FIFA World Cup, Dead to Rights and Neir Highlight Releases

Quite a few games this week with Super Street Fighter IV probably being the standout. Nothing blockbuster though in my opinion. At least SSF4 and FIFA are at a lower price than a usual game, but Dead to Rights: Retribution and Neir are at the high price.
