Beyond Co-Op, May 2nd to May 8th

Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.

The stories for this week:

- Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Announced
- Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 Announced
- New Medal of Honor Coming October 12
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta Announced
- Wii Bundles, Lost Planet 2, Skate 3, 3D Dot Game Heroes and Batman: AA 3D This Week

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Announced

Ubisoft really has the habit of having the worst kept secrets in the industry. A box shot of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood got leaked this week and Ubisoft confirmed that the game was in development. Supposedly it is coming this fall and will include co-op. Ezio is once again the main character and the game takes place in-between the gap of Ezio meeting up with his fellow assassins and him taking the Pope down at the end of Assassin’s Creed II. It will be interesting to see if the game has as deep of story as the other games in the series or if it will be more of a “side quest”. I would expect to see more at E3 this year.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 Announced

Not a huge surprise here as the original game is considered a good one and sold pretty well. Ubisoft Bucharest will handle the development on this game. Not much is known other than it is coming to the 360, PS3, Wii and PC this fall.

New Medal of Honor Coming October 12

EA continues its assault on the Call of Duty games by announcing that the Afghanistan-based Medal of Honor game will be coming out October 12, roughly one month before Call of Duty: Black Ops. Should be an interesting holiday season for military FPS games and it will be interesting to see if EA can start to really eat into the Activision’s profit margin.

God of War: Ghoss of Sparta Announced

I’m excited about this one since I really liked the original Ready at Dawn God of War game. This game will once again be PSP-only and will take place between God of War and God of War II. My big question is whether Kratos is going to lose his powers again as has happened in each of the sequels or if he will be the powerful God of War through all of it. More news at E3 this year, no word on release window or anything.

Wii Bundles, Lost Planet 2, Skate 3, 3D Dot Game Heroes and Batman: AA 3D This Week

Both the Black and White Wii bundles come out this week that include both Wii Sports and Wii Resort for $199.99. Lost Planet 2 drops this week as well, but the reviews so far haven’t been fantastic for it. The acclaimed 3D Dot Game Heroes is finally released on these shores, something I’ll be interested to get down the road probably. Finally, Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year 3D comes out this week with 2 3D glasses included. It’s too bad I can never partake in this kind of things having been born with only one eye (wear a prosthesis in the other). Don’t feel bad for me though, I enjoyed Batman: AA and highly recommend picking it up if you haven’t played it as of yet. The 3D effect works on regular TVs, so you don’t need one of those newfangled 3D-enabled HDTVs.
