Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.
The stories for this week:
- Portal 2 Delayed to April 18, 2011
- Activision Begins to Close Bizarre Creations, Finds Interested Parties
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Coming February 15, 2011
- BioWare Shows Pictures of New Game, Announced at VGA Awards
- Donkey Kong Country Returns, New Raving Rabbids and Gran Turismo 5 This Week
Portal 2 Delayed to April 18, 2011
Valve put a big spin on this by saying it was the shortest delay ever for a Valve product, but Portal 2 has been pushed back from its February release to April 18 of next year. Hopefully this will be the final date for the game, but you never know with Valve.

Activision Begins to Close Bizarre Creations, Finds Interested Parties
There was some major news when word came that Activision was shuttering Bizarre Creations, who made Blur and James Bond 007: Blood Stone for Activision. This wasn’t the only group that Activision closed this week with Iowa’s Budcat Creations seeing the axe as well. Luckily England has a 90-day stay for such things and soon enough Activision supposedly heard from companies interested in buying Bizarre who also created the Project Gotham Racing series for Microsoft on the Xbox and Xbox 360. I would guess Microsoft is one of the interested parties since it was recently rumored they wanted to get another PGR game going. Why not bring the original creators back as a subsidiary. I’d say it’s win win, but who knows.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Coming February 15, 2011
In other date announcement news, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds will be coming out the day after Valentine’s Day. Ladies, give your man a game they’ll love with this one. Given the last two were pretty good, chances are excellent this one will be as well.

BioWare Shows Pictures of New Game, Announced at VGA Awards
BioWare showed off a picture of their new game. Thoughts started flying that it was Mass Effect 3, a Mass Effect side game or a Shattered Steel game. I guess we will find out in December when the Video Game Awards run on Spike. Now if only the VGAs were actually worth anything other than seeing new trailers for games we haven’t heard about.

Donkey Kong Country Returns, New Raving Rabbids and Gran Turismo 5 This Week
Things stay at a red threat level this week with at least one more big game coming next week. This week sees Donkey Kong Country Returns which looks really good and is made by Retro, the creators of the Metroid Prime games. The Ubisoft series, Raving Rabbids has been popular and the release this time has to do with time travel. Then, finally, after many years Gran Turismo 5 finally makes an appearance. It will be very interesting to see how sales are for the game. We’ve been waiting so long and I’m not sure reviewers have the game yet to even have a review ready by the time the game comes out. Chances are given the pedigree that this game will be awesome, but who really knows.
