The people working on The Lord of the Rings: War in the North have not been shy about courting an M rating. This latest combat trailer has plenty of decapitations and dismemberments. The new title from Snowblind Studios will elaborate on the Northern Campaign mentioned in Tolkien's books. While this game won't focus on the Fellowship, it will cover new heroes of Middle-Earth. Will gamers appreciate the Coy and Vance versions of their favorite heroes? We think so. We really enjoyed our time with the game at PAX East. Which just goes to show that it doesn't matter which character kills the orcs and trolls, what matters is that we get to kill them. Game violence is like ketchup. It makes everything better. Check out the following trailer and see for yourself.
We've been intrigued by the co-op potential for this game. Two players will be able to play locally via split screen. Three players can play online, or two local players can play with a third online. There are class restrictions, so only one human, dwarf, and elf per team. LOTR War in the North will launch on August 24 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
