It should come as no surprise to, well, anyone that Valve Software would want to cash-in on their amazing Portal 2. The game came out a week and a half ago, and already DLC #1 has been announced. What is surprising is that apparently the good people at Valve don't know how to properly 'cash-in' on a product. They'll be giving away this DLC for free across all platforms. That's right, DLC #1 will be free of charge on the PC, PS3, and yes, even on the Xbox 360:
Portal 2 DLC #1 will offer new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more.
Targeted for release this summer, Portal 2 DLC #1 will be offered free of charge for the PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PS3.
We loved both the single player and the co-op portions of Portal 2, which earned the game a rare 5 out of 5 in our Co-Op Review. Most of us could be talked into paying for additional content for either campaign, but don't tell Valve. DLC #1 is 'targeted" for a summer release, but space and time move differently at Valve. If the DLC actually releases before autumn, that would be surprising. As long as they don't ask us to buy (and play, no less!) a dozen indie games for an early release, we'll be happy.
