Beyond Co-Op, May 29th to June 4th

Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.

The stories for this week:

- NGP Backwards Compatible with PSP Games on PSN
- The Witcher 2 Indeed Coming to 360 by End of 2011
- Mass Effect 3 Better with Kinect? Possibly
- E3 Next Week
- inFAMOUS 2, Red Faction: Armageddon and Green Lantern Release This Week

NGP Backwards Compatible with PSP Games on PSN

Good and bad news here. The good news is that the new NGP portable gaming system will be backwards compatible with PSP games that you can download from PSN. The bad news is that games like Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep are not available on PSN so you won’t be able to play them on the NGP when it is released.

I’m sure more will be explained next week at Sony’s press conference before E3 about the NGP, so we all wait with baited breath.

The Witcher 2 Indeed Coming to 360 by End of 2011

Developer CD Projeckt finally confirmed what many had already believed: that The Witcher 2 will be available on the 360 and the even better news is that it should drop before the end of the year. The other exciting news is that the game will include all the PC DLC that will be coming out for the game.

Mass Effect 3 Better with Kinect? Possibly

EA let an image out that both NeoGAF and Destructoid caught. There is a purple strip on the newer 360 box art for Mass Effect 3 that showed the Kinect silhouette with the words “better with Kinect” on it. EA took the picture down though. Could this be part of why the game got pushed back? Also, what kind of extras will Kinect give you that you won’t be able to get on the PS3 or PC version for instance. Should be very interesting to see BioWare’s stance on this next week where I’m sure Mass Effect 3 is going to be shown off at E3.

E3 Next Week

As you may have already read in the E3 Most Anticipated Games story, Co-Optimus’ Nick, Andrew and Kat will be at E3 this coming week. I’m interested in what will be shown off, but for the first time in many years I won’t be covering it because of a big personal situation going on with a core family member. I just ask for those that are religious to pray that the endgame, whenever that may come, will have a positive outcome.

I’ll miss covering E3, but hopefully I’ll be able to catch some of the press conferences and stuff so I know what’s coming up. It’s an interesting time in gaming and I think there could be a few surprises in store for the gaming community. I’m really interested in seeing Nintendo’s next console, the Sony NGP and if Microsoft is going to show off any sort of new hardware. There are also obviously the games, both known and unknown at this point, of which to look forward to.

inFAMOUS 2, Red Faction: Armageddon and Green Lantern Release This Week

Even though E3 is going on there are two rather large releases this week and one movie tie-in game. I am really excited about inFAMOUS 2 because I thought the first one was really good and I’m interested to see if Sucker Punch made it a tighter experience than the original. Red Faction: Armageddon also comes out and even though I’m in the minority with not totally thinking the last game was badass, it seems the early reviews are varied on this one. Finally, Green Lantern releases this week. As with most movie tie-in games it is buyer beware, but who knows…there could always be a good one that floats by, right?
