If the retro nature of the above photo doesn't send you screaming from your computer, I've got a little co-op game for you. Realm of the Mad God is a new MMO co-op bullet hell shooter. What the heck is that? Why it's exactly what it sounds like. It's a new HTML5-based browser game that plays like a shooter and has RPG elements. I actually did some strait up research and played the game for a spell. Looks like it has the potential to be a real time waster. Realm of the Mad God is free to play, but of course there is the option to spend real money on it. You can complete the game without spending a cent. All the information you could want is right here.
The game is quite fun and simple to play. My first real loot drop hooked me, but don't take my word for it. You can hop into a game and play right now, no registration required. Just click "Play" when you get there. Other players can't hurt you, so there's no fear of griefing. Helpful hint: Press "Enter," then type your message, then "Enter" again to chat. That may be common sense to some people, but some of us (myself included) are not familiar with PC gaming. Once you play through the initial stage you'll end up on a beach with up to 85 other people. You can warp to other players by clicking on them in the lower right box. If you want to check out more features of the game, read on.
Action combat! No turn-based battles here, only skilled running and gunning.
Epic boss battles. Navigate demented waves of bullets from nasty demons.
True cooperative play. All experience is shared and you win by playing together
Great 8-bit art: Retro styling FTW. It isn't a game unless you can see the pixels.
Easy leveling. No mindless grinding. Get better by being becoming better.
Over a dozen unique character classes. Play as a powerful wizard, a clever mystic, a brawling warrior.
Loot! Hundreds of weapons, potions, armors, and rings.
PermaDeath. Dying well means something in Realm. Earn fame if you survive for long enough and kill enough monsters.
Sheep. The sheep say 'Baa'
Realm of the Mad God is a little different and a lot of fun. Take a break today and check it out. If you use Chrome you can grab it for free from the Web Store.
