Release Day of the Dead Block

Please release me, let me go (and eat brainz)

The 'Release Day of the Dead Block' has been announced.  That's not the title for an upcoming George Romero zombie flick, but a statement of fact.  Dead Block is a 3 player drop-in co-op experience coming to XBLA on the 6th July for 800 Microsoft Points and PSN on the 20th July for $9.99.  Using a series of melee weapons and fiendish traps you and your pals must try and survive against the zombie hordes.

The game takes a 1950s Americana pastiche, although the character models seem to span 1950-70; one character is called Foxy Jones and to my knowledge Pam Grier was not a 50s movie star.  To celebrate the release of the Dead Block, developers Candygum Games have provided two new trailers and some 4th July information about the traps the game has to offer.  It will be interesting to see is the game can balance tower defense elements with that of a zombie shooter, make sure you read Co-Optimus for the definite co-op review.

1. Sun Bed Trap: Get a sweet tan this Fourth of July using a state-of-the-art sun bed. Not only does it grant you a golden skin-tone like the sun-kissed Adoni of the shores of Jersey, but sunlight has the added perk of frying your rotting invaders before they have the chance to disrupt your pool party.

2. Freeze Trap: July can get hot. Like, REALLY hot. So, make extra sure that you stay cool by outfitting  your doorways and windows with cold air tanks, freezing any would-be intruders for easy smashing.

3. Nuclear Bomb Power Trap: When it comes to 4th of July grilling, don’t forget that we now live in the atomic age so use nuclear power to heat up your hot dogs, steaks, hamburgers, or whatever you may want to throw on the grill. Nuclear power is exceptionally handy when taking out hordes of zombies, so don’t be afraid to put the kibosh on their advances, nuclear-style!
