Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.
The stories for this week:
- Goldeneye Being Reloaded on Xbox 360 and PS3
- Freddy Krueger Coming to Mortal Kombat as DLC on August 9
- R2D2 Xbox 360 w/C3PO Controller Coming in Bundle w/Star Wars Kinect
- Activision Gives Dates for X-Men: Destiny, Spider-Man: Edge of Time and Prototype 2
- Catherine and From Dust This Week
Goldeneye Being Reloaded on Xbox 360 and PS3
Activision announced this week that they would be releasing a version of the updated Goldeneye that was released on Wii last year for the 360 and PS3 later this year. The graphics look fantastic and I really liked the Wii version last year. Wonder where Activision’s next James Bond game is after Blood Stone which I thought was pretty good even though Bizarre Creations was closed not long after it was released.

Freddy Krueger Coming to Mortal Kombat as DLC on August 9
This was just odd when I saw it in my inbox, but then again if you think about it Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street is owned by Warner Bros. and that company is also the publisher of Mortal Kombat. The video that was released was pretty cool and it looks like a good DLC for the game, although it will cost you $5 when it is released.

R2D2 Xbox 360 w/C3PO Controller Coming in Bundle w/Star Wars Kinect
Coming out of (surprise!) Comic-Con Microsoft showed off the new Xbox 360 bundle that will be out when Star Wars Kinect is released this fall and will include a Kinect and a 320GB hard drive for $449. The console itself will have an R2D2 look while the controller will have a C3PO look. Sounds like a pretty good bundle to me, well that is if Star Wars Kinect ends up being better than the initial impressions from E3.

Activision Gives Dates for X-Men: Destiny, spider-Man: Edge of Time and Prototype 2
The first two will be out this fall with X-Men: Destiny coming out September 27 and Spider-Man: Edge of Time on October 4. Finally, Prototype 2 will be out on April 24, 2012. I have to be honest, I think they are going the right way with Prototype 2 after the okay original. The marketing push behind it has been deep so far and I only expect it to get bigger.

Catherine and From Dust This Week
A relatively quiet week, although I think both Catherine and From Dust are going to be “sleepers” in every sense of the world. The demo for Catherine has been interesting and I like the anime/full-motion cel look of it. The gameplay is interesting if it turns out to encompass the full game. From Dust will most likely continue the high quality Summer of Arcade releases after last week’s Bastion and early indications seem to be this game is quite good.
