Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.
The stories for this week:
- Crysis Coming to XBLA and PS3 in October for $20
- EA Has Made $10-15 Million Off Online Pass
- Max Payne 3 Coming March 2012 w/Multiplayer, Trailer Premieres Next Wednesday
- 3DS Sales Up 260% Since Price Drop
- The Gunstringer and NHL 12 Release Week Before Gears of War 3 Drops
Crysis Coming to XBLA and PS3 in October for $20
Crytek and EA had a bit of a surprise announcement towards the end of the week by announcing that a “remastered” version of the original Crysis will be out on XBLA and PSN for $20 sometime in October. News also broke that the game will have 3D included in it much like the recently released Crysis 2. Obviously the game doesn’t look as good as it would on a top notch PC (much like the sequel), but it is looking pretty darn good from what I’m seeing. This will allow console owners to have the original’s story. There is no word on whether Warpath is included or if it will be released later. Below is the World Exclusive from Gametrailers TV from early Friday morning

EA Has Made $10-15 Million Off Online Pass
Seems as if the secondary game sales market is paying off for EA from their $10 Online Pass system for those that purchase a used game. This means roughly 1 to 1.5 million games have been sold that the owner has later paid $10 to be able to play online. I’d say that’s a pretty good take for roughly a year of being in existence.

Max Payne 3 Coming March 2012 w/Multiplayer, Trailer Premieres Next Wednesday
The long in development Max Payne 3 finally got a release window (that one hopes will hold) of March 2012 with the additional announcement that there will be a multiplayer component. Along with this there will also be a trailer premiering next Wednesday showing off the game in motion for the first time.
I’ve enjoyed the series so far and even with all the production time and restarts this game has had, I believe this is still going to be a good game. I mean, look at Red Dead Redemption, that turned out to be an excellent game even with the prolonged production time (same could arguably go for L.A. Noire, although some did not like the game).

3DS Sales Up 260% Since Price Drop
Not a huge surprise here, although I’m guessing Nintendo is wishing they would have waited on the price drop now that the Vita won’t be coming out anywhere outside of Japan this year. Anyone picked one up since the price drop, I’ve certainly thought about it.

The Gunstringer and NHL 12 Release Week Before Gears of War 3 Drops
The Kinect-only The Gunstringer comes out this week. I’ve heard good things about the game and it sounds like many review copies were sent out for it. I was offered one, but unfortunately I don’t have a Kinect…but I seriously considered getting one this week. Maybe sometime in the future.
Also coming out is NHL 12 which has gotten better and better each year. This all leads up to Gears of War 3 coming the following week. Only reason I bring that up is because as I was driving back home last night I noticed the flagship Best Buy (Richfield, MN just down from the Best Buy HQ) had a big window poster for the game. They usually have the big games advertised in a big window poster (last one I saw was Madden 12 for instance, next one will probably be Battlefield 3 then Modern Warfare 3 and probably Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, they all seem pretty popular for that specific Best Buy.
