Dead Island Ships 1 Million to North America, 2 Million Worldwide

That's a lot of dead zombies.

It appears as if there are a lot of people on vacation this past week as publisher Deep Silver has announced Dead Island has shipped more than 1 million copies of the four player co-op game to North America alone to fullfill demand.  The world wide numbers are close to 2 million copies of the game, a number expected to be hit by the end of the week.

Obviously shipped does not equal sold, but it does give an idea as to the impressive demand for the game, especially considering this doesn't include digital sales like Steam.

We’re thrilled at the retail reception Dead Island has achieved in its first few days. The critical ‘first week’ of game sales has been an enormous sales success for Deep Silver. We’re working quickly with our distribution partner in North America, Square Enix, to restock shelves as quickly as we can.

Dead Island has had an interesting launch, one in which numerous users have been reporting bugs and issues - especially with the PC version.  That said, the majority of my friends list has been playing the game every night since the its launch, and most seem just as happy with the game as we are

Xbox 360 users just received the first patch for the game and PS3 and PC owners can expect their patch to launch soon.

Now we just wait for the first batch of DLC.
