Beyond Co-Op, October 16th to October 22nd

Welcome to Beyond Co-Op, a weekly piece that talks about industry stories that may or may not be related to co-op gaming.

The stories for this week:

- Playstation Vita Coming Feburary 22, 2012 Worldwide
- SSX Moved from January Release to Valentine's Day Alongside Twisted Metal
- Next Generation Microsoft Console in 2013?
- Soul Calibur V Coming January 31, 2012 w/Ezio in Tow
- Battlefield 3, Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports 2 This Week

Playstation Vita Coming Feburary 22, 2012 Worldwide

Of course the system is coming out in Japan later this year, but for the rest of the world the release date is February 22, 2012. I’m very interested in the system, but I’m also very apprehensive about the need for the proprietary memory stick for many games. I think Sony is kind of shooting themselves in the foot on that because the cards are looking to be pretty expensive, but what do I know?

SSX Moved from January Release to Valentine's Day Alongside Twisted Metal

For unknown reasons SSX has been moved back a few weeks from its original January 2012 release. It will now be released on Valentine’s Day along with Twisted Metal on the PS3.

Next Generation Microsoft Console in 2013?

The rumor mill seems to be rolling with news that Microsoft will be showing off their next console at E3 in 2013 and be released later that year. Word is companies like Lionhead, Remedy and Rare are busy at work on games for this new system, but we won’t know for sure until 2013 probably.

The upcoming Soul Calibur V has also gotten a release date of January 31, 2012. Along with this it has been announced that Ezio from Assassin’s Creed will indeed be a playable character.

Battlefield 3, Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports 2 This Week

The big release this week is Battlefield 3, although I am afraid for the game with rumors running rampant that console version owners will have a Day 1 patch with the possibility of there being some changes between the PC and console versions. I guess we’ll see reviews on the game soon, but I do feel it has to have pretty good reviews to do well against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in two weeks…a game that pretty much has its own momentum.

Some Kinect games also come out this week with Dance Central 2 which allows you to dance with another person and Kinect Sports 2 coming as well.
