If Warren Spector’s Epic Mickey did one thing wrong, it was appearing exclusively on the Wii console. That made it essentially unavailable (or at least unappealing) to at least two-thirds of the videogame buying public. We at Co-Optimus might also suggest that it should have been a co-op game. Now don’t get too excited, but if a recent rumor/leak is to be believed, both of those issues will be rectified in the sequel, Epic Mickey 2. The game has yet to be officially announced, but it’s looking like a sure bet.
The source of the leak is a Disney newsletter that appeared on StitchKingdom.com. It was quickly pulled, but not before Game Informer snagged the game’s description. The biggest reveal is that Epic Mickey 2 will be coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii this time around, greatly expanding its potential audience. It will even pack 2-player split-screen co-op, with the second player controlling Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a classic Disney character who Mickey encountered in the first game.
If the leak is accurate, Epic Mickey 2 will debut in Fall 2012, meaning it’s not too terribly far off. We’ll be watching closely for an official announcement.
