Here at Co-Optimus, we look back fondly on the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games. TMNT IV: Turtles in Time is one of my favorite co-op experiences ever, as you'll recall from our coverage in Co-Op Classics. If you look at the last few Turtles games, though, the experience was... not so great. Most of the Turtles titles I've played recently were either single player (the horror) or just mind numbingly repetitive.
Just announced is a new TMNT game, so new it doesn't even have an official title yet. It's not a tie in to a movie or TV show at all, which bodes well, and it is being developed for the Wii. The best news? "The untitled fighter is being developed by Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Team Ninja veterans." Yes, that sounds pretty good to us.
Right now, details are quite scarce, but it is known that it will be a 2.5D four player fighting game. A versus mode is included, but there is a story mode, which gives us the hope of co-op. It's too early to say this title will meet or even surpass the greatness of Turtles In Time, but we'll certainly be watching closely!
