CCV: Cubninja and Kimberjam's Gaming Rigs
Hi! How's it going? This is my first user blog. I'll be making this up as I go. The CCV asked us to show off our gaming rigs, so that's what I'm going to do.
The above picture is of the setup I usually play on. Sorry about the quality of the pictures, but I realized if I used my Droid camera, the images would be grainy. Which means I didn't have to dust. Here we have a 55" Samsung. Sure, it looks great, but I have to squint to see it. This is because my eyes are shot and the living room is an oversized monstrosity. My wife, Kim, forces us to sit 12 feet away. I measured. I want to move the couch closer, but she won't let me. She says then we'd have a couch in the middle of this huge room, and it would cut off the view of the fireplace. I guess I've had worse problems.
Here you can see a Kinect, an Xbox 360, a PS3, a PS2 and a battery charger. There's a mess of wires I keep on promising to do something about, but I'm not really going to do anything. That silver abomination is a Time Warner DVR.
Here's a close-up of the gaming table. I use those Mortal Kombat bookends for my "On Deck" games, much to the chagrin of Co-Optimus resident librarian Sam Tyler. Sometimes I clear this table off when company comes over. Sometimes. (not really)
This is the bedroom setup. We've got a 360 in here and a 42" Samsung, along with another blasted cable box. Remeber when TVs were cable ready? Those were the days. Kim plays here when the mood strikes her (or if the game requires online-only co-op). We prefer split-screen over separate setups. There's something unsettling about using a headset to talk to your spouse while they're in the other room. We also use this layout if a game doesn't support split-screen with online play when we're doing the whole group thing (*cough* Borderlands).
On the left we have our "His and Hers" DS's. One's in 3D, the other is just regular D. Guess which one is mine? If you couldn't tell, that is not my desk.
In the middle you see the result of refusing to sell back games, due to the fact they rip your guts out on the trade-in value. I stopped trading in games about a year ago, and I'm running out of space.
To the right we have our guest room, which has a PlayStation 2 Slim and a 19" tube. I think that's a sumo wrestler beer tap handle on top of the TV, plus a graduating/dancing bear, and an empty gum ball machine... weird. Remember when you could put stuff on top of your TV? I miss that.
That's what I'm talking about! You could have a whole diorama of destruction on top of your tube if the mood struck you. Sadly, this 36" beast gets no gaming love. If you want a working tube TV and a hernia, let me know.
This is where the magic happens. A good chunk of the daily Co-Optimus news is born right here. I also play the occasional browser game. I think my Gateway laptop is about five years old, so it has a lot of aches and pains. It can't handle the big games (or even the medium ones), but it's more than adequate for some simple Pop Cap games such as Peggle or Plants Vs Zombies.
On the upper shelf I've got a Lego version of Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fallingwater" for inspiration, a picture of my daughter to remind me that I should be watching her, a 32oz beer mug with "Cubbie" engraved on it (from another life), and a sweet Co-Optimus coffee mug. I actually took this pic as I was writing this blog, just so I could use the word "meta." There. I used it.
