Secret World Legends Now Released, Elite Dungeons Introduced
Secret World Legends, the free-to-play overhaul of The Secret World, also launched late June. Currently it’s only playable via a Funcom launcher, but it’s coming to Steam in late July if you really need the Steam integration.
We covered the its announcement back in April, but for those of you who might have missed it, Secret World Legends is a complete reboot with no characters being carried over and it is completely free-to-play. Players of the original Secret World can still play the old version of the game with their existing characters, but they won’t be able to do it via Steam anymore (they have to get the Funcom launcher). Secret World Legends(SWL) supports the “TSW Legacy Transfer system,” however, which allows returning players to link their TSW and SWL accounts to copy over any remaining membership time as well as most unlocked cosmetics, pets, sprints, and emotes. This will only be available until some undetermined date in August, however, so if this system applies to you, I’d recommend doing it sooner rather than later.
Though SWL has only been live for a couple of weeks, Update 2.0.1 landed last week, which adds some exciting tweaks and additions to the game. Of greatest interest is the introduction of the Elite Dungeon System. Elite Dungeons take pre-existing Story Dungeons and provide more challenge over a whopping 10 difficulty levels (Elite 1 to Elite 10). Higher difficulty means better loot, with Elite 1 through Elite 4 steadily upping the difficulty, while Elite 5 through Elite 10 introduce whole new challenges. As of Update 2.0.1, Elite difficulty is now available for the following dungeons: The Polaris, Darkness War, Hell Raised, Hell Eternal, and the Ankh. Additional dungeons will receive Elite Mode in future updates.
It’s certainly a great time to be a Final Fantasy 14 or Secret World player. Are you playing either of these games? If so, how are they treating you in light of these major updates?
