Linking up to four cabinets together, several players can enter the hosts area and help them fight their way through the goal. Each player can go whereever they want, so splitting up is an option.
Spikeout was the first beat'um up allowing several cabinets to be linked together for multiplayer instead of trying to squeeze everyone in front of one screen. Another notable change is that the players are dropped in so-called areas with the goal to reach a gate at the any way through the level they please. In all other aspects however it is a typical 3D brawler.
