Spyborgs Co-Op Review - Page 2

There are a few elements of Spyborgs that stand out from the average nature of the rest of the game.  Most noticeable is the graphics.  Spyborgs is one of the best looking Wii games I've ever played.  The characters are detailed and well animated.  The lighting and particle effects are quite impressive, especially on levels where flames surround the characters.  Even when there are many enemies on screen, the frame rate is more than acceptable.  The revamped art style of the game is a definite plus, and I consider Spyborgs one of the few Wii titles that compares favorably to HD-capable consoles as far as graphics are concerned.

Spyborgs' difficulty is also unusual, especially for a Wii title.  The standard difficulty is very frustrating.  You can expect to die often, even with a co-op partner along to help.  The difficulty is thankfully adjustable on the fly, and we found that taking it down a notch or two made for a much more enjoyable experience.  I know there are some out there who thrive on challenge, and I am certain that the higher difficulty levels are exactly what these people are looking for.

Spyborgs received a "T" rating from the ESRB.  I find this a bit perplexing, as the enemies are all robots, but there are a few mild expletives in some of the dialogue.  Apart from this, the game is very kid-friendly.

Even with the stellar graphics and high difficulty, Spyborgs doesn't really stand out from the crowd.  The game plays almost exactly as do many, many other games, even some that are quite old by video game standards.  If you are a fan of brawlers, and don't mind a tough challenge, Spyborgs will prove a decent experience for you.  If brawlers aren't your thing, look elsewhere as you spend your dollars this crowded gaming season.

The Co-Op Experience: Spyborgs is a unique action-adventure game set in a stylish world that resembles a Saturday morning cartoon. Engaging players in team-based challenges designed to utilize 2-player co-op play, Spyborgs takes the theme of “team” to a whole new level of fun. Fast, addictive gameplay, unique controls offered by the Wii Remote™, and a storyline that refuses to take itself too seriously, Spyborgs will provide players with a dynamic and fresh gaming experience like no other.
