For some, Holy Diver will be the biggest "get" on the list

Play Classic Co-Op Titles with the Retro-Bit Generations

During the summer, Nintendo unveiled a little something that's sure to be a big hit this holiday season, the NES Classic Edition. The "console" shaped like a classic NES would come preloaded with 30 titles from the olden days, like Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros 3, and include modern connection ports so you can hook it up to your TV and relive your youthful gaming days. Retro-Bit, who has been putting out emulation consoles that let you play your old cartridges, has recently announced a similar product, the Retro-Bit Generations.

Capcom Digital Collection Packages XBLA Offerings for Retail Shelves

Maybe you've been looking at picking up some Capcom titles on Xbox Live Arcade? You might want to wait until later this spring. The rather blandly-named Capcom Digital Collection is headed to retail release in late March. The  disc bundles eight of Capcom's better downloadable offerings, several of which are co-op. 1942: Joint Strike, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, Final Fight: Double Impact (pictured above), Flock!, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 all feature co-op gameplay; for details, check out the links. Rounding out the set are two very popular games that lack co-op but are still pretty awesome: Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Co-Op Deals: 1942: Joint Strike and Trine on Sale on PSN

Some good co-op deals for all the Playstation users out there, courtesy of the Playstation Blog's weekly Playstation Store Update.  The remake of the classic Capcom co-op shoot 'em up, 1942: Joint Strike, is on sale this week for just $4.99, and Trine, a grand three player co-op adventure, is being permanently discounted from $19.99 to $14.99.  In his review of 1942, Nick praised the job Backbone Entertainment did in bringing this classic title back and concluded by saying "if you love top down scrolling shooters, and you love playing them with friends, you are going to really enjoy 1942: Joint Strike."  Trine was selected by our staff as the "Best Downloadable Co-Op Title" for the 2009 Co-Op GOTY Awards, and Katrina's impression of the PSN version was that it was every bit as competent and fun as its PC counterpart.  Two great deals for two great co-op games; seems like a good way to start the weekend to me!

1942: Joint Strike Low Score Contest

According to 1UP Capcom has a new contest for one of their recent co-op arcade titles, 1942: Joint Strike.  The premise of the contest is simple, score the lowest score possible in the game to win.  Ah, but not quite.  To win the first prize, players must video themselves playing through the entire game with the lowest score. For the second or third place prizes you'll have to snag the lowest scores only on the second mission.

1942: Joint Strike Hits XBLA and PSN This Week

Well, as we said not too long ago, the release of 1942: Joint Strike is fast approaching. And as the Gamerscore Blog says, 1942: Joint Strike is coming out this week. It is one of the XBLA releases of the week, but it will also find its way to the PlayStation Network. The WWII-themed co-op shooter is all nice and updated in hi-def 3D glory, which we've detailed in the past. The game will set you back 800 Microsoft Points (on XBLA), which translates to $9.99 for the PlayStation Network version. So, if you want a nice spiffy shooter (that still stays true to the 2D roots) this could be the game for you.

1942: Joint Strike hits XBLA and PSN in 2 Weeks

As a long time fan of the top down vertical shooters like Raiden II, Capcom's remake of their classic 1942 title for the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network really caught my eye.  Titled 1942: Joint Strike, the game has a renewed focus on co-op play as well as adding some new enemies.  Of course the most obvious overhaul is a totally new 3D graphics engine while still maintaining a 2D shooter feel.   Finally, if you are a music lover, the game features a brand new score by Norihiko Hibino, an international composer well-known for his work creating music for the Metal Gear series.
