Yesterday's news about Assault Heroes 2 was certainly a joy for Xbox One owners, but what about those poor, underappreciated PlayStation 4 gamers?  Who's gonna look out for the downtrodden twin-stick enthusiasts on Sony's flagship console?  

Housemarque continues to support twin-stick shooter Alienation with some additional content today. As with the previous content patch, which added local co-op and new difficulty levels, this update features free content and content for which you'll need to pay.

Housemarque's Alienation may well be my favorite twin-stick shooter released this year. From the world progression to the loot progression, there's always a new challenge and better gear waiting just around the corner. While the game has been an online co-op only affair since its launch, the much requested local co-op option will be getting added in a free update on July 5.

Patch 1.01 for Alienation dropped on the PlayStation 4 on Monday. Much of this patch involves some bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, but it also adds a couple of new features, like being able to remove cores from your guns (previously you had to scrap the thing to get them back) and forming a squad of players before heading into a mission.

Alienation manages to do something few twin-stick shooters achieve these days: defy expectations. Through a combination of well-executed mechanics and a progression system for both the world and player that feeds into that “just one more level” mentality, the game is a time-sink waiting to happen....

Alienation hit the PlayStation 4 last week, and last night Jason and I took some time to check out the game's online co-op mode. The game should feel familiar to those of you who have played Housemarque's other co-op shooter, Dead Nation. But this isn't simply a palette swap of aliens for zombies.

Housemarque's newest co-op shooter, Alienation, hits the PSN Store next Tuesday. To get you pumped for all of the aliens and explosions and exploding aliens you'll no doubt be witnessing, the developer's put together a little video discussing their history and a little of their design philosophy when it comes to making fantastic detonations.

Fighting the endless alien hordes is never easy, especially if you are all equipped with the same weapons and armour.  It is much better to have specialists who can kill aliens in their own unique ways and aid one another.  This is exactly what you can do in Alienation; let their developers explain a little more to you.

The PlayStation Store Launch Party got underway today with the release of Ska Studios' latest title, Salt and Sanctuary. An action platformer that shares more than a few ideas in common with the popular Dark Souls series, Salt and Sanctuary also allows two players to team up for some local co-op action. It's not the only cooperative title that will be a part of the party, however.

Developer Housemarque recently posted some more information on their website about the forthcoming title, Alienation, as well as the trailer that was shown during Paris Games Week. Co-Op is the focus this time around in addition to some discussion about the loot system.

Developer Housemarque is gearing up to drop another PS4 exclusive. The makers of Dead Nation and Resogun have their sights set on an extraterrestrial menace in Alienation.
