Baldur's Gate 3 is the long-awaited sequel to one of the most beloved Dungeons & Dragons video games of all time. Actually, the Steam Early Access version has been around since 2020, but the full Steam release and console versions will be launching soon. How soon? Why, the Steam version has been bumped up a bit to arrive on August 3, whereas the PlayStation 5 version will now debut on September 6. The Xbox Series S|X versions are still coming but have no firm release date yet.

One of the bigger nostalgia trips for gamers of a certain age/generation is the Dark Alliance series, which had their heyday in the PS2/Original Xbox/Gamecube era. These action-RPGs provided a Diablo-like experience long before Diablo III was even a twinkle in Blizzard's eye. Today, a new entry, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, has emerged for PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Xbox One/Series, and initial response is... well, it's not great.

Baldur's Gate is over twenty years old, and while a sequel only took two years, the third game in the series is arriving sometime next year. Players can begin to participate in an Early Access version of Baldur's Gate III which features the game's first chapter, a lot of the core systems and characters, and best of all - online co-op play.

Larian Studios delayed the early access portion of Baldur's Gate 3 back in July, but didn't give a new estimate on when we might finally get our hands on the game. Now today, during a 90 minute livestream showing new gameplay details, we have an answer. 

Baldur's Gate 3 has been officially revealed this week at PAX East in Boston by developer Larian Studios. The sequel is almost 20 years in the making, with the last new BG game released in 2001 by Bioware. 

Despite the world locking down and social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Larian Studios believes they will have a version of Baldur's Gate 3 ready for the masses via Early Access come August, 2020.

If you woke up this morning, remembered that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition are all available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch now, and THEN thought, "oh boy! A chance to play those with friends!" we have some unfortunate but also vitally important news. The console versions of those games are single-player only.
