Another week, another XBLA sale, but this time there are some co-op game on sale that you don't see that often! Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond, Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury and Pid are all down to 400 Microsoft points between 21-27 May. Shoot-em-up fans know that XBLA shmups seldom go on sale, if ever. That’s why we’re both surprised and delighted to see not one but four Xbox Live Arcade shmups on sale this week, all of them with 2-player co-op. The highlight of the sale has to be Radiant Silvergun, a port of the extremely rare Sega Saturn classic from Treasure. But heck, if you’re a fan of the genre you’re probably going to want them all.
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury is a fun 2 player co-op shoot-em-up that Co-Optimus gave a solid 3.5 out of 5. The biggest barrier to our enjoyment was that levels were locked in the co-op mode unless the host player had already completed them alone! A new title update fixes this issue and opens all levels to play in co-op from the start.
Treasure’s growing catalogue of XBLA games increased by one last week with the release of Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury. Fun levels, but nothing that ties them together; a leaderboard that doesn’t feel too competitive, Bangai-O is more bi-polar than the Ikaruga ship. Even the co-op feels a bit divided…
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury takes the series that started on the Nintendo 64 by Treasure and brings it to Microsoft's platform for the first time in all its HD glory. We sat down with Tim Ramage, the game's Executive Producer, to chat about the series and specifically the game's co-op mode.
What an awesome weekend! The whiny Goth couple finally got eliminated from the Amazing Race! I know they were annoying, but I don't really think their departure warranted a celebration at the White House. Man, some people must have really hated that couple. Celebrate by picking up one of these great games.
