Donkey and Diddy Kong's first proper co-op game is coming back to life on Switch.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Announced for a January 2025 Switch Release

The Donkey Kong Country series of platformers is delightful, but the games suffer from a lack of proper co-op. Nintendo and Retro Studios eventually released a proper co-op installment called Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii and 3DS. A lot of gamers missed that installment, alas. Luckily, Nintendo has now announced Donkey Kong Country Returns HD for Switch, giving a fresh generation of players a chance to get our Donkeys Konged.

Classic Run-and-Gun Shooter 'Alien Hominid HD' Comes to Xbox, Switch, and Steam

Alien Hominid started its life as a Flash game back in 2002. The game was ported to numerous consoles over the years, most notably to Xbox 360 as Alien Hominid HD in 2007. Now, nearly one million years later, modern players have a chance to enjoy the run-and-gun action with a fresh round of mildly enhanced ports. Alien Hominid HD has arrived on Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles, Switch, and Steam.

These two collections feature Taito's classic "Ray series" of vertically-scrolling shoot 'em ups.

Taito's 'RayStorm X RayCrisis' and 'Ray'z Arcade Chronology' Now Available on PlayStation and Switch

While Darius is Taito's number one shoot 'em up series, the "Ray'z" series is a close second. Made up of three vertically-scrolling arcade shmups released from 1994-1998, the Ray'z games still command a loyal following. Now PlayStation and Switch gamers can own the entire series (or just the two newest games) via two freshly-released collections: RayStorm X RayCrisis HD Collection and Ray'z Arcade Chronology. Both collections are similar, so we'll outline what each one contains.

These two collections of classic co-op shoot 'em ups are soon heading to PlayStation and Switch.

Taito Shoot 'em Ups 'RayStorm X RayCrisis' and 'Ray'z Arcade Chronology' Coming on June 30

Darius might be Taito's best-known series of shoot 'em ups, but the "Ray'z" series is popular too. Beginning with 1994's 2D RayForce (also known as Layer Section and Galactic Attack), the series went on to spawn two polygonal entries: RayStorm in 1996 and RayCrisis in 1998. Various iterations of these games will be included in a pair of upcoming collections for PlayStation and Switch from ININ Games: RayStorm X RayCrisis HD Collection and Ray'z Arcade Chronology. Both titles are due out on June 30.

G-Darius HD Gets a Gigantic Free Update, Adds 3 New Versions of the Game

Last year, ININ released G-Darius HD, an enhanced version of Taito's arcade classic shoot 'em up. In our co-op review, we praised the game's gameplay but felt that it could have used more additional modes for the $30 price tag. Well, our wishes were answered in a big way via the recent Version 2 update. Developer M2 has added a whopping three additional variations of G-Darius, including the robust PSOne version of the game. Now that's how I like my fish-flavored sci-fi shooters!

Spelunker HD Co-op Review

Before there was Spelunky, there was a 1980s platformer called Spelunker. The ultra-challenging platformer saw players navigating deadly caves with little chance of survival. That game was remade and expanded as Spelunker HD on PlayStation 3, but it’s not exactly easy (or even possible) to play PS3 games on modern consoles. Hence, ININ and To...

Spelunker HD Deluxe Brings the Challenge on PlayStation and Switch

Classic 8-bit platformer Spelunker was remade and given the co-op treatment as Spelunker HD back in the PlayStation 3 days. Because that version of Spelunker HD can't be played on today's consoles, another remake makes perfect sense. Thus, ININ and Tozai Games have just released Spelunker HD Deluxe on PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch. Wi...
