New World Interactive has revealed that Insurgency: Sandstorm will see a PC release sometime in September 2018. If you're unfamiliar with Insurgency, it began its life as a mod for Half-Life 2. The team behind it went on to develop it further into a stand-alone title, and are now enhancing THAT version to give us Sandstorm. While there are definite improvements, it also sounds like things haven't gone quite as planned (which I believe is the official motto for the games industry).

I'll be the first to own up to my limited understanding of actual warfare, but based on what knowledge I do have, the following is a list of scenarios ranging from "most desirable" to "least desirable":

Originally a Source mod, the tactical FPS Insurgency was released for the PC back in 2014. The developer, New World Interactive, is teaming up with publisher Focus Home Interactive to further make some tweaks and adjustments to the title and release it as Insurgency: Sandstorm sometime in 2017 for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Despite their game being over a year and a half old, New World Interactive continues to provide free Insurgency content to their core fanbase of tactical FPS gurus.  The game, which you can think of as a midway point between Counter Strike and ARMA, just received its most recent batch of new modes, weapons, and maps.

With the wintry encroachment of night looming, it makes sense that Insurgency has released a free DLC pack focused on empowering its players during those cold, lonely hours.  Will this new content, code-named Nightfall, remove the power that the ever-growing darkness holds?  Could it possibly free us from the shackles of the twilight hours and, thus, our own mortality?

Insurgency has been updated with a brand new co-op mode called "Hunt" where players must defeat all enemies and caches in an area - but there's a twist - players only get one life.

When we last looked at Insurgency, an 8 player co-op tactical shooter available on PC, we thought it showed a lot of promise, but felt the AI in the co-op mode wasn't up to snuff. The developers told us they were working on improvements and enhancements for it though, so we waited patiently. Now the update is out and there are improvements all around.

Tactical co-op shooters are rare - with the only recent example of a hardcore title being Takedown: Red Sabre. But there's another recent release; Insurgency is the first game by New World Interactive, a new Denver based studio developing the Source engine title for PC. While the core of the game is focused on its four competitive multiplayer modes for up to 32 players, the game does feature an eight player co-op mode.
