Kotaku broke the news yesterday, and it was later confirmed across multiple sites. Marvel Heroes Omega, the free-to-play action RPG from Gazillion Entertainment, will come to an end on December 31.
On Tuesday, the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel Heroes Omega officially kicked over from closed beta to open beta. It's free to download and play from the PSN store right now, along with a free character (Daredevil). Next month, Xbox One players will be able to get in on the action, too. The PlayStation 4 version of Marvel Heroes Omega has been in a "closed beta" for the past few weeks, but that comes to an end tomorrow, May 18. This is to prepare for a re-launch next Tuesday, May 23, as an open beta for all. For one luck co-op fan out there, though, you can get a head start this Friday and win codes for all five Founders' Packs!
If you missed our stream last night, we checked out a bit of the closed beta currently underway for Marvel Heroes Omega on the PlayStation 4. We gave away some Founder's Pack codes during that, and today we've got some codes to access just the closed beta itself.
Gazillion kicked off the closed beta for Marvel Heroes Omega last Friday. "Closed," in this case, means that in order to get into the beta, you have to buy one of the six Founder's Packs, which range in price from $20 to $60. They also revealed a particularly nice feature that aligns with our interests: local co-op.
I've enjoyed Gazillion's action-RPG, free-to-play, loot grindfest, Marvel Heroes 2016, for some time over the past year and a half. The "Biggest Update Ever" this past January made, from my point of view, some welcome changes to the title, and also increased the speculation that a console port would be on its way. Last week, Gaz finally revealed that port as Marvel Heroes Omega.
It's been sometime since we checked in on Gazillion's Marvel Heroes (now, Marvel Heroes 2016), but last month the developers dropped the "Biggest Update Ever" that changed up quite a bit with the title's underlying mechanics and "meta" game. Late last week, they added their 60th(!) playable character to the game with the X-Men's Beast, and fellow X-Man Jubilee as a new team-up character.
What happens when The Hulk teams up with The Punisher and Squirrel Girl? Apparently a whole lot of explosions, particles, and small rodents. In our latest co-op stream the Co-Optimus crew checks out the free to play Action/RPG called Marvel Heroes 2015. It's part Diablo, part...Dynasty Warriors. That about sums it up.
Our Marvel Heroes Co-Op FAQ will cover the basics to entry level co-op. Get in, grab a hero, and get grinding.
Free to Play games have traditionally had a negative reputation attached to them. For many the first thoughts that come to mind when hearing those three words are games like Farmville and Candycrush. It's the social stigma, the casual game, the titles are "real" gamer would never touch. But the reality of it is, there are some really quality AAA titles out there available for free, and some of those titles feature some strong cooperative play.
