Starcraft II Co-Op Missions Stream Recap
Blizzard made Starcraft II free-to-play last week, and so we decided we'd hop in real quick to check out what (exactly) you can do cooperatively. Turns out, it's a fair amount.
Blizzard made Starcraft II free-to-play last week, and so we decided we'd hop in real quick to check out what (exactly) you can do cooperatively. Turns out, it's a fair amount.
During last week's Blizzcon, the California-based developer announced that Starcraft II, the follow-up to one of the most popular RTS games of all time, would be going free-to-play... within a limited capacity.
Fans of StarCraft may recognize the latest addition to the roster of co-op commanders for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. It appears vice admiral Stukov was not lost during the events of Brood War, but taken in by the Zerg and repurposed.
Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void is the latest expansion to the extremely popular RTS giant. In addition to wrapping up the Starcraft II storyline, Legacy of the Void brings with it not just one but two cooperative gameplay modes. Co-Op Missions and Archon mode are vastly different from one another, and both have their own strengths and weaknesses....
Blizzard has teased a new Co-Op Mission (what used to be known as "Allied Commanders" mode) for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. Dubbed "Chain of Ascension," this new challenge will place players on the side of Ji'nara as she engages in a mental battle against a mysterious foe. Failure means this new threat will gain control "of the death fleet from Alarak." I don't know what those words means, but a death fleet sounds cool.
Sometimes, couples just don't work out. I know, I know. You thought Zagara would be a great fit for Rory Swann, but you keep hearing your friends gossiping about how Raynor and Artanis form an unstoppable ball of death and it's driving you crazy. Time to cut ties with your huge, genocidal bug-lady. It'll be rough, but, you know, there are plenty of aliens in the-- well, hello, Karax. I didn't see you there, with your lack of a mouth and your arsenal of psionic war machines.
A scant year ago, we relished the first details of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void's dedicated co-op mode with the official announcement of the game. Then Blizzard went radio silent on the final piece of their wildly popular sci-fi strategy title, leaving us clamoring for new info. This weekend at the Starcraft II World Championship Series, Blizzard dropped the mic on the stage by casually tossing out the release date and watching the ensuing scramble of everyone dashing to their PCs. You and your co-op commander of choice will be waging cosmic war against the enemies of the galaxy November 10th.
Blizzcon rocked the hearts and minds of stalwart Blizzard fans last weekend, revealing StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. Okay, so they didn't really reveal it, since it was technically revealed years ago when SCII was first announced, but they at least wanted you to know they hadn't forgotten about Artanis and his gloomy pal Zeratul.
Co-op play is usually an afterthought in RTS games. The Command and Conquer series may have flirted with co-op campaigns in the past, but normally our beloved humans versus robot play is relegated to a skirmish mode. Well, the folks down at TyrZ got fed up playing through story missions by themselves, and produced a co-op Campaign mod for the original Starcraft.
Being able to access and play a free version of Starcraft II is quite the gift from Blizzard to give, but what if you wanted to share your gaming experiences with a friend as well. Entering today is a thing called, “Spawning”; a brand new feature that essentially brings free co-op options to those who don’t own the full game themselves.
